In today's society, there is a significant lack of understanding and empathy towards people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. This lack of empathy perpetuates prejudices and stereotypes, leading to social division and misunderstanding, affecting policy-making as decision-makers without adequate empathy may fail to create inclusive policies.
The proposed solution is to foster empathy, understanding, and dialogue among diverse communities by providing a platform for individuals to share and listen to personal stories, ultimately influencing a more inclusive and empathetic society and policy-making. Per the official Human Library organization's slogan, we want to encourage others to "Unjudge Someone". This is achieved through the Living Library event where individuals can engage in conversations with "living books" to challenge stereotypes and prejudices.
Short-term Goals: Successfully conducting the first Living Library event, fostering immediate empathy and understanding among participants, and gathering feedback for improvement and subsequent sessions.Long-term Goals: Creating a recurring event series, building a comprehensive digital archive of living books, influencing and engaging with policymakers for better decision-making, and expanding the initiative's impact beyond the local community.
The project involves the potential for collaboration with various organizations and partners for recruiting human books, securing venues, and promoting the event. Specifically, we are running as a “Living Library” first to not infringe upon a GSBKK-related organization securing the official license for “Human Library.” From January onwards, we will transition to a formal Human Library.
Over 6 books, 2 days, and 55 conversations, we witnessed meaningful connections and deeper understanding bloom. Thank you to our readers for spending your weekend with us, learning and unlearning to help make the world a kinder place.
